2. New Church

The new church was built in the 1970s, inspired by the so-called ‘Spirit of Vatican II’ by the Studi Associati of Milan. It is a much larger space that is often used for the frequent youth gatherings that take place around the shrine in the summer months. The shrine also boasts many modernist pieces of art, and a museum dedicated to the display of works of art on the Passion.

In the summer months the body of the saint is transferred into the crypt to allow for greater number of pilgrims to venerate the holy relics.
